In my class we have to write a memoir. I want to write about ambitions and goals but that's in the future. Should I change topics or write differently?
Is it possible is write a memoir about something you want to happen in the future?
A memoir is something that already happened to you. I would write about an event that was amazing or exciting that happened.

of course. its fiction, so you can write about whatever you want. it sounds like an interesting assignment. gets you to think about who or what you want to be or accomplish.
good luck:P
I'm not sure, but at we have a different category for that kind of piece (reflective) so i wouldn't think so.
maybe googling would help?
A memoir is something you write to talk about your life and what has already happened.
If you want to write about ambitions and goals, then simply set your memoir to be in the future - meaning do not write from the perspective of you in 2009, but of you in say, 30 years.
Ask your teacher though if this is acceptable, as I have no idea what the rules or guidelines of this project are.
you can, but then it would be fiction and not a memoir
there was a powerful memoir written about a drug addict and the author even went on Oprah later to discover everything he wrote was false. This was a legal issue. memoirs cannot be fiction
