Writing about mistakes in college essays?

In my college essay, I wrote about how poor time management has led to a lot of failures, but has also made me who I am. Regretting the past is to regret who I am today, and I don't.

However, I spent a lot of words describing how I wasted time in sophomore and junior year: 245 words.

Should I shorten this?

Or should I change topics completely?
Writing about mistakes in college essays?
Rather than talk about how many mistakes you made, talk about what you learned from them and how you're better off now having made those mistakes. If you can't say now that you're better off because you wasted time back then, then change examples of your mistakes or change topics completely.
