Analyze and account for the changing status of women over the past 400 years?

I'm writing a history paper based upon topic of the ever-changing status of women throughout history, focusing on the United States and the Western part of the world (Russia, Europe, etc.) Women have made great strides to equality, which is basically my point of the essay. The struggle of women to fight for their equal rights. What is a good thesis for such a paper?
Analyze and account for the changing status of women over the past 400 years?
tell them how much more manly and whorish we've become...
Analyze and account for the changing status of women over the past 400 years?
Too much effort.

Short version: Sucked, sucked, sucked, sucked, less sucked, less sucked, even less sucked, still sucks.
It should be 'How and why women are becoming the political power players of the future', or something like that.
I'm glad women are granted more freedom and rights in the USA then in any other country , but it's been taken to far to the extreme in the form of modern day radical feminism. This has been one of the single greatest destroyers of the family today . God bless.
%26quot;Throughout history women have been subjugated by men, living in the shadows of men. Women have only just begun to step out from that shadow and establish an equal footing along side men. This essay will highlight the struggles and triumphs women have made in order to attain equal rights.%26quot;

Lola has some good advice. Focus the essay on a specific culture and perhaps a specific 'heroine' from that culture.
Your teacher would tell you to narrow this down. Pick a specific culture or group of women, and say something about their struggle. For instance: How has the status of women changed in Eastern Europe since Communist Russia fell? There are a lot of sources out there about how this has led to a rise is sex trafficking. Something specific like that is my advice! gl
