Great doctorial dissertation topic for Filipino Americans?

I am currently on AbD (All but dissertation). I completed all Phd coursework 104 hours to be specific in Sociology, and passed the comprehensive examination and completed all 3 doctorial residency requirements. I am on Milestone 2 of my dissertation, which i need 2 more milestones to complete my doctorate degree. The first two milestones is just picking a topic, establishing a committee, completeing the IRB, etc. Conversely, I am leaning on changing my topic but I cant pick a right one that is concise, almost unknown, and reflective. What topic suits Filipino Americans for a dissertation. Thank you!

Hello Kapatid!

I'm not very good at this but I have some suggestions that are worth looking for a great dissertation.

1. The Politics of Ethnicity Among Ilokanos in Hawaii.

2. From Doctors To Nurses - Filipino doctors migrating to US to become nurses.

3. The contribution of Filipino Americans in advancement of the US nation. (This is a video documentary)

I'm not so sure if those topics are relatively unknown in the US but anyway =) those are great topics IMO.

Hmmm...I think we have some notable kabayans in the boxing section that are very knowledgeable on these (ragdefender %26amp; pinoyprodigy) they may know some things I haven't mentioned here =)

Thanks!

You may explore the US/Philippine relationships after WW II. Had that war not occurred The Philippines would have received their belated independence from the US in 1946 but with some caveats.

%26quot;When I next realized that the Philippines had dropped into our laps I confess I did not know what to do with them... And one night late it came to me this way... 1) That we could not give them back to Spain- that would be cowardly and dishonorable; 2) that we could not turn them over to France and Germany - our commercial rivals in the Orient - that would be bad business and discreditable; 3) that we not leave them to themselves - they are unfit for self-government - and they would soon have anarchy and misrule over there worse than Spain's wars; and 4) that there was nothing left for us to do but to take them all, and to educate the Filipinos, and uplift and civilize and Christianize them, and by God's grace do the very best we could by them, as our fellow-men for whom Christ also died.%26quot;鈥擴.S.President William McKinley. The %26quot;ownership%26quot; of The Philippines by America after the Spanish American War was an afterthought with many extenuating %26amp; confusing circumstances. Now there is a senator Miriam Santiago who regularly demands changes in the military relations between the two countries. Curiously she has been absolutely silent about her dislike for an American military presence now that the US military is supplying ships, trucks, planes, men and aid supplies in the wake of the recent typhoons. Eh?
